Welcome to Glassy Effects.

Please browse through my store and shop with confidence. Each piece is hand-made by Karen Fardella in Norfolk, Virginia making each item one-of-a-kind.

With fused glass, each piece is hand cut, layered, and then heated in a kiln to over 1400 degrees. This causes the glass to melt together until it is one layer. For dishes and vases, after fusing the item is slumped in a second kiln firing until it takes the form of the mold. Each item is annealed or cooled slowly as well as heated slowly so that it does not shatter. The heating/cooling process takes nearly 24 hours for each firing.

I especially enjoy using dichroic glass as it changes color depending on the angle it is viewed. It is a specialty glass made with metal oxide coatings. Due to its reflective qualities, it makes my projects shimmer.
